
Dylan Carlson hit a walk-off home run for Norfolk
Triple-A: Syracuse Mets 16, Norfolk Tides 7 – Completion of Suspended Game
This game was suspended in the bottom of the seventh on Friday with the Mets ahead 7-6. As you can see by the score, things did not go well when the game resumed yesterday. Relief pitcher Yaramil Hiraldo had a horrible night. He allowed a solo home run in the eighth, then faced five batters in the ninth without retiring a single one. He was ultimately charged with seven runs as the Mets put up an eight-spot in the top of the ninth.
The Tides got one back in the bottom of the ninth on a Dylan Carlson homer, but it wasn’t close to enough.
Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 6, Syracuse Mets 4
The Tides were down 4-1 after seven innings, but scored three in the eighth and two in the ninth to pull off the comeback win. In the eighth, Dylan Beavers doubled and Dylan Carlson walked to set the table for Jeremiah Jackson. Jackson obliged with a three-run homer to tie the game. In the ninth, Beavers walked ahead of Carlson, who hit the walk-off home run.
Cade Povich made a rehab start and allowed one run in three innings. He struck out six. the one run scored on back-to-back hits in the third inning. Nate Webb came on in relief and allowed three runs in 2.2 innings.
Samuel Basallo is out with an oblique injury. No word yet on how serious, but they hope he might just miss the weekend.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 6, Erie Moon Mammoths 5
The Erie SeaWolves have been temporarily rebranded the Erie Moon Mammoths, but the hype around the change wasn’t enough for them to defeat the Baysox.
Trey Gibson started and struck out an impressive nine batters in 4.1 innings. He allowed one run on three hits and two walks. The run came in the first inning on a ground out after Gibson struggled with his control, walking two and throwing a wild pitch. Four relief pitchers combined for the final 4.2 innings, with Blake Money getting the win with a scoreless seventh.
The Baysox tied the game in the second on a home run by Adam Retzbach and went ahead in the third when Alfredo Velásquez stole home. Velásquez had singled and moved to third on a single from Reed Trimble. Trimble had a good game with three hits including his seventh home run.
High-A: Wilmington Blue Rocks (WAS) 4, Aberdeen IronBirds 3
The Blue Rocks scored four runs in the second inning to take a big lead, then held on as the IronBirds attempted to chip away. Starter Luis De León pitched 4.1 innings, three of which were very good. In the second inning, however, things went awry. The bases loaded on an error by Aron Estrada and two walks from De León, and four runs scored on back-to-back two-run singles.
The IronBirds scored single runs in each of the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings. The first two runs scored on errors by the other team. In the ninth, Aneudis Mordán singled in Austin Overn, who had walked.
Vance Honeycutt struck out five times. Woof.
Low-A: Carolina Mudcats (MIL) 3, Delmarva Shorebirds 2
Starter Carson Dorsey struck out six batters in four innings. His only run allowed came in the top of the first when Dorsey gave up two singles and also threw a wild pitch.
The Shorebirds came back to take a 2-1 lead after scoring single runs in the third and fifth innings. Yasmil Bucce knocked in both runs. In the third he had an RBI groundout after Nate George singled, stole second, and went to third on a balk. In the fifth, Maikol Hernández walked and scored on Bucce single.
Jack Crowder was charged with a the blown save with a run on two hits in the seventh inning. Adrián Delgado took the loss with a run in eighth on three singles.
