Orioles minor league recap 7/25: An Adley homer helps Bowie overcome a bad Grayson start with a ninth-inning comeback

2021 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game
Adley: still raking.

Bowie, Aberdeen and Delmarva all bash their way to a win.

Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 2, Gwinnett Stripers 5

Tides starter Dean Kremer got saddled with a loss, allowing three runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings with no walks and three strikeouts. Two of those runs came on a single by Gwinnett’s Yolmer Sanchez, of all people. It’s not exactly going to get Kremer a call-up, but it’s better than he’s been of late. Eric Hanhold coughed up two more runs on a long ball in the seventh.

The Tides plated two runs in the third inning on a pair of RBI singles from new Tide Robert Neustrom and the reliably productive Jahmai Jones. Kelvin Gutierrez and Stevie Wilkerson also chipped in with doubles.

Double-A: Bowie Baysox 6, Hartford Yard Goats 5

It was an unusually bad night for Grayson Rodriguez, who lasted only 1 2/3 innings while allowing four runs and three hits with two walks (and a HBP), a home run, and five strikeouts. He was out after 46 pitches. Nobody’s perfect.

Rodriguez was, however, picked up by Bowie’s bats and their relievers: Nick Vespi tossed a scoreless, hitless 2.1 innings, Ofelky Peralta allowed a run in four innings, and Tim Naughton got the win with a scoreless ninth.

Down in a 4-0 hole, Bowie chipped away at Hartford’s lead with RBI singles from Chris Hudgins and Greg Cullen, and a home run from Zach Watson, his first at this level. Meanwhile, Adley continues to bash, tying up the game with a two-run home run to cap off a 2-for-4 day including a double. He’s hitting .280 with a .926 OPS right now. Time for a promotion? Zach Watson capped off Rutschman’s heroics with a walk-off single that drove home Patrick Dorrian.

High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds 8, Hudson Valley Renegades 5

Don’t look now, but Aberdeen’s Drew Rom is 8-0 with a 2.79 ERA. He breezed to a win on Saturday with a five-inning, one-run outing in which he struck out six. Zach Peek had a shaky outing, allowing four runs, but it wasn’t enough for the Renegades to catch up.

Catcher Ramon Rodriguez was on fire, hitting two home runs and an RBI single. Meanwhile, Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, and Trevor Kehe each had a two-hit day, including Westburg’s fourth home run this season.

Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 7, Lynchburg Hillcats 3

Delmarva broke up a 3-3 tie with four runs after the fourth inning. Lamar Sparks went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Darell Hernaiz was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jean Carmona hit his fourth home run. TT Bowens had a two-run single. New Shorebird, catcher Wilkin Grullon, was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Griffin McLarty allowed three runs in four innings with seven K’s but Jensen Elliot’s three scoreless innings were good enough to get the win and Gregori Vasquez pitched two scoreless to close out the game.
