Everyone loses, Bowie gets no-hit, but hey, at least Adley Rutschman got promoted.
Triple-A: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins) 6, Norfolk Tides 4, 7 inn. – Game 1
A 3-2 lead in the top of the third didn’t hold as the Jumbo Shrimp came back with two in the third, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to get the win.
Few Tides hit in this one, but one who did was Jahmai Jones, who went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI. Tyler Nevin had two RBI and Kelvin Gutierrez had one, while Konner Wade allowed six runs (four earned) in six innings to take the loss.
Jacksonville 5, Norfolk 0, 7 inn. – Game 2
In the second game, a makeup of one from Wednesday, the Tides pulled off the Bob Uecker special. “One hit? That’s all we got, one (expletive) hit?”
The hit went to Stevie Wilkerson, who doubled in the fourth. Otherwise, the Tides were shut down by a quartet of Jacksonville pitchers. Mickey Jannis started for Norfolk and allowed two runs on one hit in four innings.
Still, being one-hit isn’t as bad as…
Double-A: Somerset Patriots (Yankees) 7, Bowie Baysox 0
…being no-hit, which is what happened to the Baysox courtesy of Somerset’s trio of starting pitcher Luis Severino, Shawn Semple and Ron Marinaccio.
Bowie has been one of the better teams in Double-A Northeast this season, but it had no answers at the plate Sunday. On the bright side, Luis Perez pitched 3.1 scoreless innings.
Hitting isn’t about to get easier for the Baysox, either, as top prospect Adley Rutschman got the call to move up to Norfolk. It’s good to see the Orioles’ – heck, all of baseball’s – top prospect moving up, and hopefully Camden Yards isn’t too far away now.
High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds at Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Phillies)
The game was suspended in the top of the third, with the score tied at zero. The game will be finished Aug. 31.
Low-A: Down East Wood Ducks (Rangers) 9, Delmarva Shorebirds 5, 7 inn. – Game 1
Down East seemed to have this one wrapped early with a 5-0 first-inning lead, but Delmarva came all the way back to tie the score in the bottom of the sixth. The Wood Ducks had the last laugh, however, scoring four in the top of the seventh to take command again.
TT Bowens picked up three hits, including a double, in four at-bats and scored two runs, while Cristopher Cespedes went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Lamar Sparks had two hits and an RBI.
Gregori Vasquez pitched 3.1 hitless innings in relief and struck out five.
Down East 6, Delmarva 2, 7 inn. – Game 2
In a makeup game from Saturday, Delmarva again went into the seventh with the score tied, and once again was dealt a tough defeat when Down East put four runs on the board for the winning margin.
The Shorebirds managed only two hits, continuing what was apparently an organization-wide trend, and they were a double by Darell Hernaiz and a single by Yorkislandy Alvarez. TT Bowens and Cristopher Cespedes drove the runs in.
Jake Lyons (four innings, two runs) got the start, and Nick Roth (2.1 innings, two runs) took the loss.
