Mystics needed this win to keep playoff hopes alive!

The Washington Mystics get the win on the road in Chicago as they down the Sky, 79-71. Washington sits in eighth place and needed this win to remain there if they want any chance of seeing the playoffs.

Tina Charles led the way with a game-high 31 points and 10 rebounds. She even added five assists.

Natasha Cloud had 16 points of her own along with eight assists and six rebounds. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting. The starters were getting the job done because too much was at stake.

The game was back and forth mostly, but Washington handled their business in the second half despite a run by the Sky to bring it close. There’s only two games left in the season and the Mystics to be safe need to win out. A loss at any point can change the course of their season dramatically leading to an early off season.

The Sky having already clinched a playoff spot most likely will remain in sixth place. Azura Stevens led the team with 18 points, Allie Quigley had 15 points and Candace Parker wasn’t far away with 12 points of her own. In Chicago’s case if you live by the three then you die by the three. The Sky went 3-22 from three-point range, an ugly 13.6 percent. That definitely contributed to their loss as the Mystics aimed to capitalize on it.

You can never count Washington out no matter what’s happening. They are one team that’s willing to prove any and everyone wrong. There’s even folks who believe the Mystics are still a dangerous team.

Let me tell y’all these @WashMystics are DANGEROUS. What an impressive & gritty win today @ Chicago. This playoff race is crazy.

The Mystics stay on the road and head up to New York to face the Liberty who are a game behind Washington for the final playoff spot. This is a definite game to watch as it may have playoff implications.

Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Friday and will be aired on Twitter.
