Former Maryland baseball star Matt Shaw was named Southern League Player of the Week Monday. Last week, Shaw batted .428 with four home runs and nine RBIs for the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

He hit a career-high five RBIs Sunday, including two home runs.
Shaw, who was drafted by the Cubs with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, has played in 65 games for the Smokies this season, recording a .245 batting average, 10 home runs and 33 RBIs.
He is the No. 42 ranked prospect in all of baseball and No. 3 in the Cubs system, according to the MLB Pipeline.
