This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

A former Maryland baseball player is making a fair amount of noise in the major leagues as of late.

San Francisco Giants first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr., who played with the Terps from 2013-15, excelled for his team at the plate Sunday afternoon going three-for-five with two home runs and two RBIs. The infielder notched a solo shot in both the first and third innings to give him his first career multi-home run game.

With the two homers, Wade now has three home runs in his past two games and 12 total for the season. The former Terp is batting just over .250 and has collected 27 RBIs through 49 games this year for the Giants. He also has accumulated 36 hits, 23 runs scored and 17 walks so far this season.

Wade has officially surpassed his previous professional career-high of 11 home runs in a single season, which he achieved in 2018.

His strong 2021 season has helped the Giants become a mainstay towards the top of the NL West as San Francisco remains 2.0 games ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the standings.
