This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
A few former Terps have been showcasing their abilities during the opening week of the NFL preseason.
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Anthony McFarland Jr. had himself a solid day on the ground against the Philadelphia Eagles in an eight-point victory. McFarland finished tied-second on the team in carries with nine and ran for 34 yards and a touchdown. He had an average of 3.8 yards per carry and his longest individual rush went for 11 yards. McFarland also had one catch for seven yards.
Ty Johnson made a strong case for himself in the New York Jets’ backfield as they defeated the New York Giants. Johnson had a team-high 33 yards off nine rushes, and he also had two catches that combined for seven yards. His 3.7 yards per carry was the highest mark on the team.
Los Angeles Rams running back Jake Funk carried the ball five times against Los Angeles Chargers, which was the third-most out of any back on the team in the game. Funk ended up rushing for just 12 yards and he reeled in one catch on one target as well.
Besides the running backs, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver DJ Turner exhibited his versatility on the offensive side of the ball. The former Terp had a game-high of seven catches and turned those receptions into 43 yards. Turner rounded out his day with two rushes for seven yards.
