It’s distressing that the Supreme Court has given Donald Trump even more license to run roughshod over conventional methods of implementing large-scale initiatives.
His warlike actions in Iran, despite campaign promises to the contrary, blatantly bypassed the need to gain approval from the legislative branch of government.
What will this cost us in terms of military commitments and potential loss of life for American troops in the region?
Having already been given immunity from prosecution for committing crimes, the Supreme Court has now invalidated one of the only means left for concerned parties to address Trump’s threats to (1) fire huge numbers of government employees without providing any sort of data calculating the costs of doing so, (2) cut off public funding to academic institutions, (3) initiate baseless lawsuits to intimidate media sources, (4) deprive individuals born in the U.S. from the right to citizenship, and (5) use questionable and extremely aggressive tactics to deport individuals, many of whom have rights that are being ignored.
Without any consequences, this autocratic politician will continue to push the limits of his authority beyond the breaking point until someone forces him to stop.
Our system of government is under attack, and all too many people are allowing it to happen
