The Baltimore Ravens have a great history of putting together phenominal defensive units. Defenses led by players such as Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs and more come to mind, but now in 2021, Baltimore still has very high expectations for themselves on that side of the ball.
During an appearance on “Good Morning Football“, Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen said that he expects a “big season” from his unit.
“Those guys are are one-of-a-kind so you know we lost some key pieces. But I feel like, it’s the Ravens defense, so you know how we’re gonna come…We’ve got those new guys up front in the draft. So there’s a lot of stuff to look out for. And we just want to be that same defense we were, a top-five defense. All the pieces that we’ve got, all the coaching that we’ve got added to the team. It’s going to be a big season. And I can’t wait.”
The new additions up front that Queen is referring to are first-round edge rusher Odafe Oweh and fifth-round edge rusher Daelin Hayes. Those two and others will be relied upon to step up in the face of losses such as Matthew Judon and Yannick Ngakoue in the pass rusher department.
In 2020, Baltimore ranked seventh in total yards allowed, giving up 5,276 yards to opposing offenses. They certainly have all of the pieces to be a top-five unit in 2021, especially with players like Queen expected to take a big leap from where they were last year.
