The Baltimore Ravens saw former assistant head coach and wide receivers coach David Culley depart for the Houston Texans in the 2021 offseason. The veteran coach was offered the chance to be the head coach in Houston, an offer which he happily accepted.
The Texans made plenty of headlines on Thursday when they decided to fire Culley after just one season with the team. Baltimore cornerback Marlon Humphrey responded to the news on Twitter, pointing out the fact that Culley was fired after a year in which the team’s franchise quarterback didn’t play in Deshaun Watson.
Getting fired after one year without the franchise QB playing…

Watson has wanted to be traded from Houston and still has plenty of legal issues. That combination saw Watson miss every game in 2021, so Culley was forced to use a combination of Tyrod Taylor and Davis Mills at quarterback while also working with a roster that had many holes. Despite those facts, he was still able to win four games, and Humphrey’s tweet indicates that he thinks Culley was given the short end of the stick by the Texans.
Culley was seemingly well liked by the players, and has a reputation around the league as not only a great coach, but a great person. He did everything he could in Houston, and many believe the Texans did wrong by their now-former head coach, with that list of people apparently including Humphrey.
