Ravens Work Out Former No. 3 Overall Pick

Defensive end Dion Jordan’s search for a landing spot continues as teams begin training camp this week.

ESPN’s Field Yates reported Monday that the Baltimore Ravens are working Jordan out. The Oregon alum appeared in 13 games for the San Francisco 49ers last season.

He was one of three pass rushers that the Ravens worked out today, per Yates.

Jordan has struggled to find his footing since the Miami Dolphins picked him third overall in the 2013 draft. After four years at Oregon, Jordan was coveted for his combination of size (6-foot-6) and speed (4.54 40-yard dash at the combine). He registered 29 tackles for loss throughout his career as a Duck.

After a disappointing rookie season in Miami, Jordan was suspended for the first four games of 2014 for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy. Three months later (September 2014), Jordan broke the rules again and two games were added to the suspension.

In sad news for player and team, Jordan received a third substance-related suspension in April 2015. Jordan was deemed ineligible for all of 2015. He was reinstated by the league a year later but did not play a down in 2016. The Dolphins released Jordan the following offseason for failing a physical.

Jordan has since suited up for the Seattle Seahawks, the Oakland Raiders and the Niners. While he didn’t look like a top three pick during any of those stints, Jordan has tallied 10.5 sacks over the last four seasons––in limited minutes.

If Baltimore opts against taking a flier on Jordan, someone else likely will.
