Here it is — our final pod before heading to Richmond. This hour-long episode has coverage on the new COVID rules, a lookahead to the best camp battles and a really good interview between two JPs, James Finlay and Jaret Patterson. Listen here: https://t.co/HgT9zvLere pic.twitter.com/SkNf16E4g6

From NFL Now on @nflnetwork: #Eagles TE Zach Ertz will report for the start of training camp, though I don’t believe it’s all sunshine and roses between him and the team. (I still got love for ya, @howardeskin) pic.twitter.com/Zu46xAZDAL

As far as the Deshaun Watson case, my understanding based on conversations today is that the league is still in “fact-finding and monitor mode.” 1/3
— IG: JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) July 22, 2021
An NFL source also made a point that in previous prominent cases involving players put on the Exempt List and/or that were subject to the Conduct Policy, league action was accelerated around those seeking to remain with their current team. 2/3

I’m told, given there’s league sentiment that Deshaun Watson’s situation with the Texans is different in that regard, the sense is that “there isn’t a need to do anything too early,” as of now, per source.

Watsons salary is low enough this year to make it work. Would probably have to extend Cox and maybe cut Ertz or rework Johnsons deal.

The NFL told teams in a memo today that if a game is canceled due to a covid outbreak on a team due to unvaccinated players and/or staffers and cannot be rescheduled within the 18-week framework of the regular season, the team with the outbreak will forfeit the game.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) July 22, 2021
The NFL rescheduled games last season but didn’t cancel any entirely or add a week to the regular season. So if this forfeit policy had been in effect last season, it would have applied to no games, although a couple situations would have come close.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) July 22, 2021
The NFL’s memo also says that if a team must forfeit a game because of a covid outbreak attributable to unvaccinated players and/or staffers, players won’t be paid their salaries that week (on that team or the opposing team).
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) July 22, 2021
From the NFL’s memo to teams: “We do not anticipate adding a ’19th week’ to accommodate games that cannot be rescheduled within the current 18 weeks of the regular season.”
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) July 22, 2021
The NFL played two rescheduled games on Tuesdays last season and one (Ravens-Steelers) on a Wednesday. No games were canceled entirely. The league discussed the possibility of adding an extra week to the 2020 regular season if needed but it never happened.

Dr. Allen Sills says the NFL is pleased with where player vaccinations are right now. At more than 78 percent with at least one dose as camps open. pic.twitter.com/kYwbcd2ZXF
— Judy Battista (@judybattista) July 22, 2021
Updated player vaccination numbers: 78 percent of NFL players have had at least one vaccine dose; 14 teams have more than 85 percent of their players vaccinated; no team is below 50 percent.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) July 22, 2021
Washington Football Team vaccination rate is moving up, per sources, and is now between 50 and 60 percent. There’s optimism that things will continue “trending up” as the team heads to Richmond for training camp next week.

The NFL played last year with no vaccine DURING the pandemic and things were cool. Folks are tripping! The majority of the league will be vaccinated. There were very few team outbreaks last year. Things will be fine. If you don’t want to get vaccinated, that’s your prerogative.

Some of y’all clearly didn’t get what I’m saying here lol.. the NFL is pressuring/ “influencing” guys to get the vaccine. They are saying if there is an outbreak, the team will be penalized heavily. My point is no teammate of mine will feel that pressure from me because… https://t.co/odRnl7xUUZ
— Jalen Ramsey (@jalenramsey) July 22, 2021
Just because my teammate(s) personally decide not to get the vaccine, I won’t think they are a bad teammate. That’s all
It’s all love— Jalen Ramsey (@jalenramsey) July 22, 2021
Im not sure of Judons take here (I dont know his stance on the vaccine). What if its that the unvaccinated possibly costing checks to the vaccinated? I can understand being upset with that.
— Jason_OTC (@Jason_OTC) July 22, 2021
When I informed Ezekiel Elliott about NFL memo today saying unvaccinated players causing an outbreak could lead to their team forfeiting and players from both teams losing their game check, Elliott said, “Wait. GAME CHECKS?” He says he believes in individual choice.

Listen, the NFL is smart and has good lawyers.
They are not mandating vaccinations They are, instead, making it very difficult on the unvaccinated.

Jets assistant coach Greg Knapp, who was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near his home in Danville, Ca., died today. Knapp was 58. Knapp played for three NFL teams, and coached seven NFL teams over 27 seasons. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, and three daughters.

Sorry to hear about Greg Knapp’s passing. He developed some of the games great quarterbacks — a tribute to him as a coach. My thoughts and prayers to his mother, wife and daughters. Gone way too soon. The league has lost a good man.
