Patrick Mahomes has only a handful of snaps in the Kansas City Chiefs’ first preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. But will Andy Reid let him play a little bit more in the remaining exhibition games?
Speaking to the media on Monday, Reid said that the team is prioritizing keeping Mahomes healthy. But he stated that there is “a pretty good chance” Mahomes gets more snaps in the Chiefs’ next preseason game.
“Yeah, I think it’s a mix because health is obviously important,” Reid said. “But getting used to those new guys that he’s dealing with, I think, is also important. Hearing his voice his important in a game situation with fans and so on.”
Mahomes took four snaps on the opening drive against the 49ers on Saturday. He went 1-of-2, completing a pass to tight end Travis Kelce, and handed the ball off to Clyde Edwards-Helaire twice.
#Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said there’s a “pretty good chance” we’ll see more of QB Patrick Mahomes in game two vs. Arizona — Reid wants the new OL to hear Mahomes’ voice with crowd noise.

The Kansas City Chiefs won an NFL-best 14 games in the 2020 regular season, reaching their second-straight Super Bowl in the process. But they lost Super Bowl LV to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9 due in large part to the offensive line being unable to protect Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs spent the ensuing offseason bolstering that offensive line, adding the likes of Orlando Brown, Joe Thuney, Kyle Long and Creed Humphrey to keep him upright.
Patrick Mahomes doesn’t necessarily need the preseason reps to get chemistry with his line. But he may take the opportunity anyway.
Should Mahomes play in any of the remaining two preseason games?
