Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, is one of the top recruits in his high school class. The 2023 recruit is the No. 6 combo guard and No. 30 overall recruit in the class, per 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
Given his name, it’s fair for fans to wonder if Bronny James is deserving of his ranking. An anonymous NBA scout helped answer that question this weekend.
Speaking to Yahoo! Sports’ Krysten Peek, an anonymous NBA scout praised Bronny James for his performance at Nike’s Peach Jam event.
“Bronny has been a positive surprise,” an NBA scout said. “He’s shown me he’s more than a last name, he can make shots and handle the ball. He’s very even-keeled for someone who’s under the microscope.”

That’s a pretty good review for Bronny James, who is only a couple of months removed from recovering from a serious knee injury.
It’s still early in his recruitment, but Bronny James is expected to command serious interest from major programs.
Of course, it’s also possible that Bronny James will look to follow in his father’s footsteps and go straight from high school to the NBA.
LeBron has admitted that it’s a goal of his to play alongside his son.
“That’s definitely one of my goals, but that’s a long-term goal,” James said earlier this year. “My son right now is in high school and enjoying what being a teenager is all about. But that would be pretty cool to go on my resume.”
