Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon missed all of last week’s practices with an ankle injury suffered in Week 4. However, he was able to return for limited action during Sunday’s overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Despite making his return to the field this past weekend, Mixon has been listed as questionable for Sunday’s Week 6 matchup against the Detroit Lions. Though his status is still unclear, the 25-year-old running back was able to notch some limited action during today’s practice.
According to Bengals insider Ben Baby, Mixon joined the running back corps for drills during the tail end of Wednesday’s media availability.

In his return to action this past Sunday, Joe Mixon took 10 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown. Still recovering from his ankle issue, the former second-round pick was out-snapped by his veteran backup Samaje Perine, who logged 11 carries for 59 yards and four receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown.
Unfortunately for the Bengals, the team is now heavily relying on Mixon’s return to the backfield this weekend. Just yesterday, Perine was added to the COVID-19 reserve list and his status for Sunday is unclear.
In response to Mixon and Perine’s limited availability, the Bengals signed 23-year-old running back Elijah Holyfield to the practice squad. If either of the team’s lead backs are unable to return to action in Week 6, rookie RB Chris Evans will likely see a significant uptick in usage.
Given his return to the field this past Sunday and today’s practice action though, it appears Mixon is heading in the right direction.
