It’s been two decades since Seattle has hosted Major League Baseball’s All-Star week. In 2023, that drought will come to an end.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported this Tuesday morning that Seattle will host the All-Star Game in 2023. The league is currently finalizing its plans to bring the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby to T-Mobile Park for that season.
Seattle hosted the All-Star Game in 2001, back when the venue was known as Safeco Field. Since this news isn’t official just yet, the MLB has not released a statement.
Passan said the MLB already has two venues on the books for All-Star festivities. Dodger Stadium will host the All-Star Game in 2022, and Citizens Bank Park will have the honor of playing host in 2026.
T-Mobile Park is an excellent site for the All-Star Game due to its retractable roof and classic look. The fan base in Seattle should be very excited for this game in 2023, especially since they’ve waited over two decades for the All-Star game to come back.

Judging by the early reactions on social media, MLB fans are pleased with the league’s latest decision.
“2001 was such a fun All-Star week, can’t wait to see what this new version will be like in 2023,” Taylor Jacobs of ESPN Seattle said.
There are some fans, however, who are surprised the 2023 All-Star Game won’t take place in Chicago.
“I thought that 2023 might be the year that Wrigley Field would get the All-Star Game back with the renovations complete,” Larry Hawley of WGN-TV. “The venue hasn’t hosted the game since 1990.”
