Late Tuesday night, star golfer Bryson DeChambeau made a comment that has fans worried about his chances at the Ryder Cup.
DeChambeau has been gearing up to compete in the upcoming Professional Long Drivers Association World Championship in Mesquite, Nev. While doing that, Bryson made a somewhat concerning admission.
“My hands are wrecked from it,” DeChambeau said as he showed off calluses on his palms. “People don’t realize how difficult long drive really is.”
Here’s more of what he said, via Golf.com:
“In golf, it’s the one thing where you can judge your accomplishments by a number. Not necessarily by going out and playing golf, because you can catch a sprinkler head or catch a bad break or bad wind. On Flightscope, you can see the ball speed number. And when you obtain a ball speed number, it’s so different and unique. It’s like a shot-putter shot-putting a new record number. You’re trying to find that full potential to break through.”
It’s a concerning admission because Bryson will be playing in the Ryder Cup in just a few days. The United States doesn’t have a very good track record against Europe and needs all the help it can get.
A healthy Bryson DeChambeau would be a big asset. However, it seems like the 27-year-old might not be at the top of his game – at least physically – when competition kicks off next week.
