Carmelo Anthony isn’t sure what his future with the Lakers will be like. Regardless, he’s ready to get to work.
The big question for the Lakers is how will they utilize Anthony’s current skillset? He’s transformed himself into a solid spot-up shooter, but lacks on the defensive end. The Lakers, who won the 2020 NBA Finals because of their defensive tenacity, may elect for stronger offensive play this upcoming season, though.
So what does that mean for Anthony? Some think he’ll find his way into the Lakers’ starting lineup either on a full- or part-time basis. Regardless of the opportunities Anthony is given, he’s going to be ready.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just know I’m prepared,” Anthony told reporters on Monday, via Lakers reporter Ryan Ward. “I’m ready. I’m ready to go play basketball. I know what’s at stake here and I’m totally locked in.”

There’s no question the Lakers will start Russell Westbrook, LeBron James and Anthony Davis this upcoming season. The real question is where will Frank Vogel play James and Davis. At this point in their respective careers, playing James at the four and Davis at the five makes the most sense, but Davis has been reluctant to move away from the four.
If James and Davis move to the four and five, that would give Carmelo Anthony the best opportunity to start at the three. His only competition there would be Trevor Ariza, who’s more of a three-and-D wing.
Realistically, Anthony will probably get most of his minutes off the bench. He’ll be a tremendous spark plug when the Lakers need him.
