The Detroit Lions bolstered their depth in the quarterback room on Tuesday.
The Lions have reportedly signed former XFL star Jordan Ta’amu, according to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. He joins a depth chart in Detroit that features Jared Goff, David Blough and Tim Boyle.
Ta’amu was phenomenal for St. Louis Battlehawks during the XFL’s short-lived comeback last year. He completed 72 percent of his throws for 1,050 yards and five touchdowns in five games. Prior to his stint in the XFL, he threw for 5,600 yards and 30 touchdowns in two seasons at Ole Miss.
Ta’amu is back in the NFL. He’s joining the Detroit Lions with preseason in full swing.

Jordan Ta’amu should get some run at quarterback for the Lions during the preseason. Jared Goff won’t play all too much until the regular season begins.
Detroit kicked off its preseason schedule with a 16-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Friday. Goff had 56 yards through the air on seven completions and nine attempts. Backup David Blough went 5-of-6 for 76 yards while third-stringer Tim Boyle completed 8-of-15 for 38 yards.
Ta’amu now has an opportunity to compete with Boyle for No. 3 on the Lions’ quarterback depth chart. He has two preseason games to show what he’s got.
The Lions continue their preseason schedule and preparations for the 2021 season this Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They’ll wrap up their preseason schedule on Aug. 27 against the Indianapolis Colts.
