It’s safe to say Drew Brees was impressed by Jameis Winston’s 2021 starting quarterback debut with the New Orleans Saints.
Who wasn’t?
Winston led the Saints to a blowout win over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. New Orleans crushed Green Bay, 38-3, in a game that was every bit as ugly as the final score would indicate. Winston didn’t throw for a ton of yards, but he piled up five touchdowns in the blowout victory.
Following the game, Brees gave Winston some major praise on NBC.
“I guess, apparently, this is what the Saints have been missing,” Brees said of Winston.

Brees is joking, of course, but the Saints sure did look good in the Week 1 victory over the Packers.
Winston, meanwhile, had a perfect postgame message.
“Coach says all the time that we’re in a race to get better,” Winston said. “We are going to celebrate this game today, but there are people dealing with way worse than me right now. There are still people in Louisiana without power. I’ll probably reflect on it after our season is over, but right now we have to keep getting better. There’s some things that I won’t like when I watch the film tonight, so we still have to get better.”
