Former Ohio State defensive end and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year John Simon inked a new deal to continue his NFL career on Sunday. The 30-year-old edge rusher has agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans and is headed for a reunion with Mike Vrabel.
Simon will join the team just before the start of training camp on Wednesday. The Titans will be the fifth franchise that he has been a part of over the course of his eight-year NFL career.
The veteran edge rusher last played in all 16 games for the New England Patriots in 2o2o. He’s also spent time in the AFC South before with the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans after starting his career with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.
The Titans announced the signing in an official release on Sunday afternoon. The terms of Simon’s deal were not revealed at this time.

Simon had a strong year with the Patriots in 2020, posting some of the best numbers of his career. He ended the season with 46 tackles and 2.0 sacks. In eight years in the NFL, Simon has recorded 277 career tackles, 21 career sacks, and 25 tackles for a loss.
The most productive stretch of Simon’s career came recently in New England, where he saw time in 47 games over the course of three seasons. The edge-rusher developed an ability to stick in Bill Belichick’s defense and he’ll now try to continue that success in Tennessee.
Simon came into the NFL in 2013 with the Ravens after he was a defensive stopper for the Ohio State Buckeyes during his senior college season. During his time in Columbus, he worked alongside Vrabel, who served as both linebackers and defensive line coach at Ohio State during Simon’s upperclassmen years.
The Titans are thin at defensive end and will gladly welcome in a proven veteran to training camp. Vrabel will do his best to get solid production out of Simon as soon as possible.
