Mark Sanchez enjoyed a 10-year NFL career after being selected No. 5 overall in the 2009 NFL draft. While the early part of his career was successful, Sanchez spent the second half of his career as a backup for multiple teams.
Sanchez’s final NFL season was in 2018 when he was signed in November after the horrific injury to Alex Smith to be Colt McCoy’s backup. Unfortunately, McCoy would suffer a leg injury, too, and Sanchez was suddenly in the lineup.
He would appear in two games for Washington, making one start, before returning to the bench. He would retire after the season and join ESPN’s college football coverage.
Now, Sanchez has a new gig. According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, he was hired as a game analyst for FOX Sports. He is expected to partner up with Kevin Kugler this fall. Sanchez replaces Chris Spielman, who left to take a front-office position with the Detroit Lions.
FOX also talked to Smith and former Washington head coach Jay Gruden about analyst roles in 2021. Yet another former member of the Washington franchise, Robert Griffin III, also auditioned at FOX and other networks.
It remains to be seen if Smith, Gruden and Griffin land media roles this fall.
