Since the Packers just placed Funchess on injured reserve, his season with the team is over. It’s a tough blow for Funchess because he already missed the 2020 season due to concerns involving COVID-19.
Green Bay signed Funchess to a one-year deal in 2019 with the intent that he’d revitalize his career. Unfortunately, the Michigan product has really struggled to stay on the field since 2018.
Funchess began his career with the Carolina Panthers as a second-round pick. During his time with the Panthers, he had 161 catches for 2,233 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Before the Packers signed Funchess to a one-year deal, the Indianapolis Colts took a chance on him. However, injuries prevented him from making an impact for Frank Reich’s squad.

Would it have been nice to see what Funchess can do in Matt LaFleur’s system? Sure, but the Packers have more than enough depth on offense to be a Super Bowl contender this fall.
As of now, the Packers have Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Amari Rodgers and Marquez Valdes-Scantling on their depth chart.
Green Bay will open the 2021 season on the road against New Orleans. It should be a really fun matchup between two playoff-caliber teams.
