Tim Tebow made his preseason debut for the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend, but the quarterback-turned-tight end might not be around much longer.
Tebow struggled mightily when trying to block against the Cleveland Browns. Video of his failures at the point of attack have been going viral over the last couple of days.
Appearing on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” this afternoon, former Jaguars legend Tony Boselli said he is not surprised that Tebow has been unable to block effectively during his brief time at tight end.
“You can see in camp too, he struggles to block,” Boselli said. “You can say he was a physical quarterback. That’s great. Being a physical quarterback is one thing. Being a physical tight end and playing in the trenches and having to block and move people is something that’s much more difficult. He’s just not shown a propensity to do that during training camp.”
Even more so than his blocking struggles, Boselli cited another reason for believing Tebow might not have much of a chance of sticking around long-term.
“I think the most telling thing for me is he was on zero special teams,” Boselli said. “If you want to be a down the line guy who plays tight end, you better play special teams and be good at them. He was the only tight end who didn’t have any reps on special teams in the first preseason game. I think that’s very telling.”
“He was on zero special teams plays… For him not to be on one is very telling.”

NFL teams must get down to 85 players by tomorrow afternoon before cutting to 80 next Tuesday. Tebow should definitely make tomorrow’s cut and could even stick around after next week.
However, he always faced long odds to actually make the 53-man roster, and nothing we’ve seen thus far has changed that reality.
