Cincinnati Bengals rookie wideout Ja’Marr Chase didn’t make a strong impression on the rest of the NFL this preseason, as he struggled to create separation on his routes and had a handful of drops.
Although it’d be easy for Chase to get frustrated over his preseason struggles, the LSU product has done an excellent job of staying levelheaded. In fact, he recently owned up to his shortcomings.
Chase spoke to the media on Monday to discuss Week 1 of the upcoming season and his rough performance in the preseason. The No. 5 overall pick knows that he needs to be better this fall.
“I know I left a lot of stuff out there,” Chase said, via ESPN. “But that’s all in time for me to get better, of course. I’m not afraid to get better. That’s what I’m here for — to work, to get better, make the team better, make the organization better

As for what went wrong in the preseason, Chase believes it all comes down to concentration.
“If you look back at it, I jumped in the air when the ball got to me,” Chase said. “That means my eyes weren’t concentrated on the ball. I didn’t keep still. So that makes my eye adjustment for the ball move around.”
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has said that he’s not worried about Chase because he sees how hard he works in practice. Hopefully, his hard work during the week will pay off this Sunday.
The Bengals will host the Vikings in their season opener. Chase’s first NFL matchup will be against LSU legend Patrick Peterson.
