Jon Gruden’s second stint with the Las Vegas Raiders hasn’t lived up to the hype just yet. Over the last three seasons, he has a 19-29 record. That’s not what the franchise was expecting when they handed Gruden a 10-year, $100 million contract.
With the 2021 season about to begin, Gruden was asked if he feels any pressure to lead the team to the playoffs. His answer may surprise some fans.
“I don’t really feel pressure,” Gruden told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Mark Davis is going to let me know if it’s good enough or not. And I know what’s good and what isn’t. I’m 58-years-old now, and I’m not working any less than I did when I was 38. So I’m doing the best I can. I’m proud of the results we have gotten, but also realistic. I know what’s at stake. But I’m not going to worry about it.”
Gruden might not feel any pressure right now, but that could change if the Raiders stumble out of the gate this season.

During his interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Gruden also commented on his relationship with Raiders general manager Mike Mayock. For the most part, it sounds like they’re on the same page.
“Real good. Real competitive. I think we work well together,” Gruden said. “I’m not going to speak for him, and we’re not going to agree on everything all the time. But we do, professionally, agree on what decision is made. I appreciate his work ethic. I’m excited about coming in here every day and seeing him. We have a lot of fun. A lot of laughs.”
The Raiders will begin the 2021 season on Sept. 13 against the Ravens. It should be a really exciting AFC showdown.
