Brooklyn Nets megastar Kevin Durant remains one of sports’ most prominent bachelors. He’s never been married, nor does he have any children. But while he’s waiting to find “true love” in a potential partner, he recently revealed why he’s not in a rush to have kids.
In an interview with his former teammate Draymond Green, Durant explained that he doesn’t want to put undue pressure on any children. He doesn’t want to have a child while he’s active in the NBA because he doesn’t want that child to feel the pressure to get into basketball too. Durant added that he’s always been so focused on his career and his alone time. He believes waiting to have children will make him a better father when/if it happens.
“I don’t want him to have to feel like he’s pressured in this bubble to do what I did,” Durant said. “I don’t want any pressure for anybody that’s coming into my world to do what I like to do.”
Fortunately for Durant, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be an issue for a long time. He isn’t currently in a relationship (that the wider world knows of at least), but was previously engaged to Monica Wright.
Dray: “Do you ever worry your kid won’t understand who Kevin Durant is?”
KD: “I’m glad he won’t … I don’t want him to have to feel like he’s pressured in this bubble to do what I did. I don’t want any pressure for anybody that’s coming into my world to do what I like to do.”

Kevin Durant certainly has a different perspective on having kids than many other athletes of his caliber. LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have all raised kids during their playing careers, many of whom hope to follow in their respective fathers’ footsteps.
If Durant ever does have kids, fans will probably be eager to see them play basketball.
Does Kevin Durant have the right mindset towards starting a family?
