Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was a late scratch from their Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, surprising many. After the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski addressed it.
Speaking to the media following the 33-29 loss in Kansas City, Stanfaski explained that Beckham worked out before the game but didn’t feel like he could go “a significant amount” in the game. Stefanski said that it felt like the right thing to do to let him rest instead.
“He worked out before the game and didn’t feel like he could go a significant amount, so we felt like it was the right thing to do to keep him inactive. We had four wide receivers up,” Stefanski said, via Cleveland.com.
The Cleveland Browns didn’t seem to need Beckham for the majority of the game. Their offense was humming up until the fourth quarter, when back-to-back mistakes gave the Chiefs a window to take the lead. And after giving up that lead, they couldn’t get it back, losing 33-29.

Odell Beckham Jr. has been out of action since suffering a torn ACL in the middle of last season. He missed nine regular season games plus the Browns’ playoff run.
Beckham seemed on the verge of making the regular season opener thanks to a good training camp. But apparently his recovery wasn’t good enough for him to be at 100-percent in Week 1.
Fortunately, Stefanski indicated that Beckham may be available for Week 2 against the Houston Texans. His appearance in that game might also come down to how he feels on Sunday.
Will we see Odell Beckham Jr. make his return in Week 2?
