Lane Kiffin may not have been able to make the trip to Atlanta, but Ole Miss looked like a program ready to take another big step on Monday night. The Rebels jumped all over ACC foe Louisville, taking a 28-0 lead into the half, and cruising to a comfortable 43-24 win.
The Cardinals did manage to outscore Ole Miss in the second half, 24-17. By that point, it was too late thanks to a red-hot first half for the Rebs offense.
Quarterback Matt Corral put his stamp on the game, after an exciting 2020 season. He went 22-for-32 for 381 yards and a touchdown, adding 55 rushing yards and a score on the ground.
Kirk Herbstreit was on the call for the Monday night primetime game. This morning, he shared just how impressed he was with what he saw from the now 1-0 Rebels.
Memo to anyone playing @OleMissFB this yr-DO NOT get behind this team & think you can get back into the game. This offense keeps its foot on the gas till the last possession. Hard to keep up w/ @corral_matt & company and hope to get a service break. Rebs look like complete team!

Last year was a pretty successful debut season for Kiffin in Oxford, all things considered. Facing an All-SEC schedule up until bowl season, the team finished 5-5, going out with a nice Outback Bowl win over a very good Indiana team. After losing four of their first five games, including shootouts with Florida, Alabama, and Auburn, Ole MIss would win four of their last five. The only loss came 53-48 to LSU.
With Week 1 behind them, Ole Miss has a chance to really grab some momentum. They face Austin Peay and Tulane over the next two weekends, before yet another date with Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.
