The Detroit Lions were dealt a massive blow to their secondary in Week 1, as second-year cornerback Jeff Okudah suffered a ruptured Achilles against the San Francisco 49ers.
Okudah, last year’s No. 3 overall pick, hasn’t really lived up to his potential in the NFL yet. The Lions were hopeful that he’d be able to show the rest of the league what he can do this fall. Obviously, his Achilles injury has derailed those plans.
With its secondary in disarray at the moment, Detroit is searching the free agent market to see if it can find a one-year rental.
According the NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the Lions have been in talks with Quinton Dunbar regarding a potential reunion. He signed with the Lions earlier this year, but was then released in August.
Dunbar reportedly has “a few options” that he’s sorting through. That’s why there’s no guarantee he’ll return to the Motor City.
The #Lions are searching for CB help after losing Jeff Okudah for the season to an Achilles injury. They’ve spoken to CB Quinton Dunbar, according to sources. They’d actually talked to him about returning before Okudah’s injury. Dunbar has a few options he’s sorting through.

In 2019, Dunbar had 37 total tackles, eight passes defended and four interceptions. He was unable to replicate that production in 2020 with the Seattle Seahawks due to a nagging knee injury.
Dunbar, 29, should still have some gas left in the tank at this stage in his career. Whether or not he wants to spend this season on the Lions is unclear at this time.
