Jamal Adams is entering the last year of his rookie deal with the Seattle Seahawks this fall and still doesn’t have a new contract in place. As a result, his status for the start of the team’s training camp was in doubt.
But, Adams brought an end to those concerns earlier today. Per a picture taken by the team on Tuesday, the All-Pro safety was at the Seahawks facility for the first day of camp.
Adams’ presence in Seattle will allow the franchise’s fanbase to breathe a bit easier headed into late July and with the season just around the corner. Although the star safety and the Seahawks have progressed in negotiations, some still feared that a holdout would be on the table for the 25-year-old.
But Adams showed up and got to work on Tuesday, signaling that he’s committed to Seattle, even without a contract extension in place.

In his first season with the Seahawks, Adams proved why he’s regarded as one of the most versatile safeties in the NFL. He did a little bit of everything, racking up 83 total tackles, 14 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three passes defended and a forced fumble.
Just last week, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared that the Seahawks are willing to somewhat break the bank and make Adams the highest-paid safety in the league. However, the organization is hesitant to make him the highest-paid defender in Seattle and doesn’t want to offer more than the three-year, $54 million contract given to linebacker Bobby Wagner.
“It does sound like the Seahawks would like to keep this deal under the massive deal that Bobby Wagner, their best defensive player and one of their team leaders, signed last year – that’s $18 million,” Rapoport said on NFL Now at the end of last week. “The Seahawks can have Adams as the highest-paid safety in the NFL, but below Bobby Wagner. You’re probably looking at about $17 million per year, which would be a massive deal for one of the most fun players in the NFL.”
Adams clearly wants to commit to the Seahawks long-term and signaled that by showing up to the first day of camp on Tuesday. Now Seattle will have to hunker down and strike a deal that’s worthy of one of the brightest defenders in football.
