The USC Trojans suffered a fairly embarrassing loss to Pac-12 rival Stanford on Saturday, but USC legend Matt Leinart had a slightly different concern as the game got underway.
Taking to Twitter during the game last night, Leinart retweeted a video of the crowd size at the Coliseum. It was the second week in a row that the 77,000-seat stadium was less than 75-percent full.
“SMH. Different feel then back in the day,” Leinart wrote.
Last week, Leinart lamented that the stadium wasn’t full for the USC-San Jose State game. He said at the time that it upset him to see USC struggle to “bring the juice back into the place.”

In fairness to the fans, they probably wouldn’t have wanted to stay for the entirety of last night’s game. USC never led against Stanford once as the Cardinals had their way with the Trojans defense in the second half.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Cardinals scored three unanswered touchdowns to take a 42-13 lead in the fourth quarter. USC tried to rally but fell well short in a 42-28 loss.
That Stanford loss could loom large for USC in the Pac-12 title race. But it may effectively end their national title chances. One more loss to any team will ensure that they miss the College Football Playoff yet again.
With how much the team has struggled to reassert themselves as national title contenders over the past decade, maybe it shouldn’t be a shock that Trojans fans aren’t as excited as they were when Leinart was their quarterback.
