On Tuesday night, the New York Mets took the field for a game at Citi Field against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Mets star slugger Pete Alonso was hoping it would be time for him to break out of his slump. He entered the game against St. Louis without a hit in his last 16 at-bats.
Unfortunately for Alonso, his first two plate appearances ended with him grounding into a double play. When he came up to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning, he was hoping to finally change his luck.
It was not to be. The two-time Home Run Derby champion swung for the fences on a 1-2 pitch, but completely whiffed. The strikeout put Alonso’s slump at 0-for-19 and he let his frustrations show.
Alonso showed off his strength by snapping his bat over his leg.
Check it out.

Alonso grounded out in the bottom of the eight inning to extend his hitless streak to 20 at-bats.
It’s a tough slump for one of the best long-ball hitters in the league. To make matters worse, the Mets are fighting for the final Wild Card spot and need Alonso to play his best.
Other players will need to step up until Alonso rounds back into form.
