A longtime college football quarterback rivalry could be renewed later this fall.
On Oct. 23, UNLV is set to host San Jose State. That game might not jump off the page to most casual fans, but when you take a closer look at the quarterback matchup, it should.
UNLV could be led by Tate Martell. The former Ohio State and Miami quarterback has reportedly transferred into the UNLV program. He should be eligible to play right away this fall.
San Jose State, meanwhile, is led by former Texas A&M quarterback Nicholas Starkel. At one point, Starkel and Martell were set to be teammates on the Aggies. Martell, then a five-star recruit, had committed to play at Texas A&M. In a leaked message, Martell took a shot at Starkel, then a Texas A&M quarterback.
“Texas A&M I can start as a true freshman easy, all their QB’s left and all there is going to be is Nick Starkel and he’s a** my dude,” Martell previously wrote, per 247Sports.
Neither quarterback ended up playing much for Texas A&M. Martell de-committed and played for Ohio State, before transferring to Miami. Starkel, meanwhile, spent three years at Texas A&M before transferring to Arkansas. He left the Razorbacks for San Jose State after the 2019 season.
Martell and Starkel appeared to settle their feud earlier this year.

But the feud might be back on now that they’re set to compete against each other.
Starkel took to Twitter on Sunday to react to Martell’s transfer news.
@CollegeGameDay Are y’all busy October 23rd? Might have to get y’all to Vegas for the game of a lifetime.

Game on.
