Obviously the return of Dak Prescott has received the most attention for the Dallas Cowboys during team activities, but don’t overlook the return of Tyron Smith. A lingering neck injury, which eventually required surgery, cost him the entire 2020 season.
When healthy, Smith has been a stalwart up front for Dallas. He made the Pro Bowl every year from 2013-19, was a member of one of the first two All-Pro teams from 2013-16, and was a 2010s NFL All-Decade selection.
The Cowboys offensive line, the team’s strength for years, suffered major injury issues in 2020, including Smith. He’s back, and certainly looks to be in game shape.
For someone who clears 300 pounds, he’s in extremely impressive shape. A shirtless photo of the star tackle by Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports from this week is making the rounds on social media.

That’s freakish shape for a lineman. Needless to say, Cowboys fans are excited to see him back.

How often do you see a 300lb monster with a 6 pack? Rare as a unicorn riding a Liger…..

By all accounts, he’s off to an impressive start on the practice field as well.
Cowboys LT Tyron Smith is where pass rushes go to die. This is every snap, regardless of rusher. Smith off to an incredible start in camp. Neck injury that limited him to two games in 2020 looks clearly behind him. pic.twitter.com/Vo34RDXNp6

While 2020 was the first year he’s lost almost completely to injuries, nagging issues have plagued him since 2016. He missed three games each year from 2016-19, never eclipsing 79-percent of the team’s offensive snaps for the year during those seasons. Per Pro Football Reference, he played 100-percent of the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive snaps form 2013-15.
When healthy, he’s among the best players at the position. He’s only 30 years old, remarkably, so hopefully he has plenty of football ahead of him. That would certainly be good news for Prescott and the rest of the Cowboys offense.
Tyron Smith and the Cowboys have a tough task when they open the 2021 season in less than two months. Dallas is on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, Sept. 9, the first game of the NFL season.
