Tyrann Mathieu is one of the biggest trash talkers in the NFL, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise he took offense to what Giants owner John Mara had to say about taunting this week.
Mara and most of the NFL owners have cracked down on taunting within the league. Mara even went as far to say this week he’s “sick and tired” of the trash talking that takes place during games.
“We get kind of sick and tired of the talking that does go on from time to time on the field,” Mara said this week, via Pro Football Talk. “We tried to balance the sportsmanship with allowing the players to have fun and there’s always a fine line there, but none of us like to see that. It’s just a question of whether you can have rules that can be enforced and without taking the fun out of the game too, but nobody wants to see a player taunting another player. I know, I certainly don’t. I think the rest of the members of the Competition Committee feel the same way, too.”

As you might have expected, Mara’s comments aren’t being received very well by NFL players. Mathieu is the latest to fire back at the New York Giants’ owner.

Obviously there’s a line that needs to be drawn by the NFL in regards to taunting. Fights can’t be tolerated. But who doesn’t love some good old-fashioned trash talking?
Mathieu’s never been afraid to taunt other players. He even got in Tom Brady’s face during Super Bowl LV.
We don’t expect him or many others to cut down on taunting anytime soon, despite the NFL’s best efforts.
