Jamal Adams didn’t just receive a massive extension from the Seattle Seahawks this Tuesday, he completely reset the market for safeties.
The Seahawks gave Adams a four-year contract that’s worth $70 million. That makes him the highest-paid safety in the NFL at this moment.
Shortly after Adams’ new deal was announced, Kansas City Chiefs analyst Tod Palmer tweeted “This could be relevant to the Chiefs’ contract negotiations with Tyrann Mathieu.” Palmer tagged Mathieu in the tweet, which then led to an interesting response from the “Honey Badger.”
“Oh plz,” Mathieu replied. “The disrespect is noted.”
Well, this isn’t a great sign for the Chiefs. Judging by Mathieu’s tweet, his negotiations with the team aren’t going as smoothly as fans hoped they would.
Oh plz. The disrespect is noted.

Mathieu is entering the final year of his three-year contract with the Chiefs. His initial deal with the franchise was worth a total of $42 million.
Over the past two seasons, Mathieu has compiled 137 total tackles, 21 passes defended and 10 interceptions. He completely transformed Andy Reid’s secondary once he arrived in Kansas City.
Adams is considerably younger than Mathieu, so it’s tough to envision Mathieu landing a deal as lucrative as Adams’. On the flip side, he’s still in the prime of his career and should receive another big contract in the near future.
