It’s been over a year and a half since Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant tragically died unexpectedly in a helicopter crash. Today, Aug. 23, marks a bit of a sad milestone day in the legacy of the “Black Mamba.”
On Monday, the late Bryant would’ve turned 43. His wife, Vanessa, took to social media to commemorate the day.
Vanessa Bryant posted a picture of her and Kobe kissing while holding the Larry O’Brien trophy after the Lakers won one of the five championships during the Black Mamba’s career in Los Angeles. She also wrote a touching message to her late husband.
“Happy birthday, Papi. Te Amo por siempre. Amor Eterno,” Vanessa wrote on Instagram Monday.
Vanessa Bryant hasn’t been the only one to post a tribute to Kobe on Monday for his 43rd birthday. Russell Wilson, Carmelo Anthony, Novak Djokovic and many other athletes took to social media to wish the Bryant family the best on this complicated day.
Kobe and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, passed away in a tragic helicopter crash in January 2020, which devastated the world of sports at the time. Even since then, athletes everywhere, and mostly in the NBA, had honored the all-time great with various tributes during games and matches.
As for Vanessa and for her daughters, the last 19 months haven’t been easy. However, she said that she’s continuing to work hard to make each and every day better for her and her family.
“Lying in bed crying isn’t going to change the fact that my family will never be the same again,” Vanessa told People.com in March. “… But getting out of bed and pushing forward is going to make the day better for my girls and for me. So that’s what I do.”
