The Boston Celtics are keeping blue-collar guard Marcus Smart around for a while. Smart agreed to a four-year contract extension with Boston on Monday, according to reports.
Smart had been the subject of trade rumors earlier this summer. Instead, he’s now locked in with the Celtics through the 2025-26 season.
Smart’s new deal kicks in in 2022-23 and is worth $77 million over four seasons. He’ll make over $14 million in the final year of his current contract in 2021-22.
After news of his new pact was reported, Smart took to Twitter to offer his reaction. It looks like the shamrocks signify the seven years he’s already spent in Boston and the four additional ones he signed up for.

The Celtics took Smart sixth overall out of Oklahoma State in 2014. Last season, he produced career-highs in points (13.1), assists (5.7), blocks (0.5) and minutes (32.9) per game.
