Matt LaFleur Admits If Aaron Rodgers Drama Was A Factor

September 14, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur discuss a play on the Green Bay Packers sideline.

The Green Bay Packers looked lifeless on offense against the New Orleans Saints this past weekend, as Aaron Rodgers finished the 2021 season opener with 133 passing yards and two interceptions.

Rodgers’ performance was quite disappointing for a player who spent the majority of his offseason questioning whether or not he wants to remain in Green Bay for the final years of his career.

Several media members questioned if Rodgers’ offseason drama played a role in Green Bay’s blowout loss on Sunday. According to Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, though, the team’s awful performance was not a direct result of Rodgers being involved in countless offseason rumors.

“No, I think this team’s focused on now,” LaFleur said, via ProFootballTalk. “And unfortunately, sometimes in this league you get humbled. And certainly we got humbled. Like I said, it’s about how we respond to that. How we come back to work. How we stay together. And get ready to play against a team I know is gonna be really hungry coming in here.”

“No, I think this team is focused on now and unfortunately sometimes in this league you get humbled. Certainly, we got humbled. Like I said, it’s about how respond to that.”

It’d be extremely unfair to blame the Packers’ loss solely on Rodgers and his offseason situation. At the end of the day, the Saints were better in all three phases of the game.

The Packers will need to solve their issues fast if they want to reach their full potential this ceiling. An 0-1 start isn’t the end of the world, but things could get dicey if they don’t defeat the Detroit Lions next Monday.

After being humbled on national TV this past weekend, we’d imagine Green Bay will look much better in Week 2.
