New York Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson performed admirably in his preseason debut this weekend, stirring up excitement for the rest of his first year in the NFL. He’ll get a chance to be back in action next weekend when his team travels to Green Bay to take on the Packers.
Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur is already busy preparing for the Jets to arrive next weekend and has already thought about game planning against Wilson. He spoke highly of the No. 2 overall pick, but did express one concern he has about the rookie’s upcoming season.
“He’s gotta make sure he gets the proper coaching up there. That’s the one thing I question,” LaFleur said, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Well, that’s awkward. Why you ask?
The Jets new offensive coordinator for the 2021 season is Matt’s younger brother, Mike LaFleur.

Obviously LaFleur was having a little bit of fun with his younger brother, but the Jets offensive coordinator will want to use that quip as fuel come next Saturday afternoon. There’s nothing like a friendly sibling rivalry to draw attention to an August preseason game.
Mike LaFleur will have plenty to build off of after his team’s 12-7 win over the New York Giants in this weekend’s preseason opener. That will start with putting his rookie quarterback in the best possible situation to perform well.
Wilson played in just two series for the Jets in Saturday’s win, but showed his potential as an NFL starting quarterback. He completed 6-of-9 passes for 63 yards and led his team to a field goal in his first possession under center. Given his youth, he still has plenty to improve upon, but the strong start bodes well for the rest of the preseason before his rookie year officially gets underway.
The Jets will travel to play the Packers on Saturday, Aug. 21. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET.
