On Friday night, the Cleveland Indians face off against the Tampa Bay Rays in the second game of a four-game series between the two teams.
With the score knotted at four runs apiece, Indians reliever Nick Wittgren took the mound. Unfortunately, he didn’t have his best performance as he allowed five earned runs in less than an inning of work.
After a 10-5 loss to the Rays, Indians fans decided it would be a good idea to send death threats to Wittgren on social media. In a post on Twitter, he shared some of the terrible messages he received.
“Thank you for all of the kind messages,” Wittgren said on social media. “Sadly this is considered “normal” in professional sports. It’s happened to 90% of players I know and basically after every bad outing a player has. But there is nothing normal about threatening someone and their families lives.”

Wittgren’s wife, Ashley, also took to Twitter with a message for fans after they received horrible messages on social media.
“Y’all I get it, my husband had a bad day at work,” she said. “But sending both of us very explicit death threats aimed at him, me, and our children is absolutely inexcusable.”

It’s normal for fans to be frustrated when a player on their favorite team doesn’t perform up to their capabilities.
However, it’s downright unacceptable that a fan would stoop to such behavior as sending threats to a player.
