In the hours since, two journalists – Clay Travis of Outkick and, more notably, Megyn Kelly – have taken to Twitter to blast Osaka for her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover. Travis began the fiasco when he highlighted Osaka’s recent life since announcing her bout with depression, which caused her to withdraw from Wimbledon. Kelly then added to Travis’ comments, mentioning Osaka has also been featured on the cover of Vogue and Time magazines.
It didn’t take Osaka long to respond. She clapped back at Kelly for her lack of research. The tennis star then went on to clarify all of her magazine covers were shot last year.
“Seeing as you’re a journalist I would’ve assumed you would take the time to research what the lead times are for magazines, if you did that you would’ve found out I shot all of my covers last year,” Osaka told Kelly on Twitter. “Instead your first reaction is to hop on here and spew negativity, do better Megan”
Well said, Naomi. We’re not sure what Megyn Kelly or Clay Travis were trying to accomplish with their negative comments.

Let’s not forget the cover of (& interview in) Vogue Japan and Time Mag! https://t.co/PAAUEwAVi0

Naomi Osaka’s right. There’s no reason for Megyn Kelly or Clay Travis to “spew negativity.”
Osaka’s past year has been full of ups and downs. She’s obviously one of the more gifted tennis players in the world. Mental health has caused her to step away from the game, at the moment. Osaka, in the meantime, has received plenty of support in the midst of her battle.
Congratulations on all the success, Naomi!
