NBA World Reacts To Kawhi Leonard Free Agency News

July 26, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Kawhi Leonard dribbles the ball for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Los Angeles Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard has the option to opt-out of his contract with the team ahead of free agency. But recent reports indicate that he isn’t going anywhere.

ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday that Kawhi is expected to re-sign with the Clippers this summer. He’ll be staying with the team he just led to their first-ever Western Conference Finals.

In two years with the Clippers, Kawhi has started 109 games and averaged 26 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He has been an All-Star in both seasons.

On Twitter, fans don’t appear too surprised by the move. Many have pointed out that Kawhi moved heaven and earth to ensure he got to the Clippers. So they were confident he wasn’t going to leave:

No shut he moved hell and high water just to get there. People saying he’d leave were just trying to create a story https://t.co/Q4jSCKInL1

There was a 0% chance Kawhi was leaving the Clippers https://t.co/yER1KzwTpb

Of course, many are also poking fun at fans of other teams who thought they might get Kawhi Leonard in the first place:

The 2020-21 season was a historic season for the Los Angeles Clippers. While Kawhi Leonard didn’t have his best regular season ever, he really turned on the juice in the postseason.

In 11 playoff games he averaged 30.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Sadly, a severe injury in the Western Conference Semifinals kept him from playing in the Conference Finals.

If Kawhi can overcome his injury and play this coming season, he’ll be expected to lead them back.

But for now, it appears that Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers aren’t heading for a divorce anytime soon.
