From an injury standpoint, the last couple of years have not been kind to six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.
For the second season in a row, McCoy has suffered a season-ending injury. Last year, it came in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys; this time around, it happened in the Las Vegas Raiders’ Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football.
After McCoy left the game Monday, the Raiders only revealed that he suffered a knee injury. This morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that whatever the problem is, it is serious enough to end his year.
#Raiders DT Gerald McCoy suffered a season-ending injury on Monday night, sources say. Another season cut short for the former multi-year Pro Bowler. The team announced it as a knee on MNF. Damion Square has replaced him on the roster.

From 2010-18, McCoy was a star on the interior for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He made six Pro Bowls and three All-Pro first teams.
After signing with the Carolina Panthers in 2019, the former No. 3 overall pick turned in another strong campaign, starting all 16 games and compiling 37 tackles and five sacks.
However, McCoy has been wrecked by injuries since then, and at 33 years old, it is fair to wonder how much football he has left ahead of him. That’s a sad reality for a player of his caliber.
