Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is entering the final year of his rookie contract. As a result, the All-Pro is hoping that he can break the bank before the start of the 2021 season.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport issued an important update on Adams’ contract talks with the Seahawks this Friday.
As of now, Seattle is reportedly hesitant to make Adams its highest-paid defensive player. That’s because the front office has already given star linebacker Bobby Wagner a three-year, $54 million contract.
The good news, however, is that Seattle’s front office is open to making Adams the highest-paid safety in the NFL.
“It does sound like the Seahawks would like to keep this deal under the massive deal that Bobby Wagner, their best defensive player and one of their team leaders, signed last year – that’s $18 million,” Rapoport said on NFL Now. “The Seahawks can have Adams as the highest-paid safety in the NFL, but below Bobby Wagner. You’re probably looking at about $17 million per year, which would be a massive deal for one of the most fun players in the NFL.”

In his first season with the Seahawks, Adams had 83 total tackles, 14 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three passes defended and a forced fumble.
Adams has already proven that he can be a game-changer for Seattle. Now, he’s hoping he can receive a significant raise before he gets back to work this fall.
