The Green Bay Packers have reportedly gotten a “huge lift” before kickoff against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Packers star Za’Darius Smith is set to play on Sunday afternoon.
Smith, a second-team All-Pro in 2020, was listed as “questionable” for the Week 1 season opener. However, he’ll be suited up against the Saints today.
“Packers standout pass-rusher Za’Darius Smith, who has battled a back issue, is playing today, source said. A huge lift for GB by one of their best players,” Rapoport reported on Sunday morning.

Smith, a two-time Pro Bowler, is arguably the Packers’ most-important defensive player. Getting him for the Week 1 season opener is a massive lift for Green Bay’s defense.
The Packers and the Saints are scheduled to kick off at 4:25 p.m. E.T. on Sunday. The Week 1 game will be played in Jacksonville, as New Orleans continues to recover from Hurricane Ida.
Sunday’s contest between New Orleans and Green Bay will air on FOX.
