This week, the Washington Commanders kicked off the next phase of their offseason program with OTAs. The OTAs represent a team’s first opportunity for on-field work of the offseason.
Head coach Ron Rivera was optimistic about full participation in Washington’s offseason program. However, on the first day of OTAs, wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Cam Sims and defensive ends Chase Young and Montez Sweat were absent.
McLaurin participated in the early phase of the offseason program but would sit out the on-field portion due to his contract situation. Rivera said Young was still rehabbing his injured knee and expressed confidence Young would return to the team soon. Sims was out due to the birth of his child, while Sweat missed the first day with an excused absence.
This week’s OTAs were the first chance for fans to see new quarterback Carson Wentz on the field in Washington colors.
