There’s no bigger name on the trade block this MLB season than Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer. A deal isn’t imminent at this time, but the Nationals may decide to trade Scherzer since he’ll be a free agent this upcoming offseason.
While it’s too early to tell what Washington may receive in return for Scherzer, it’s very clear that he has a strong market.
According to Jayson Stark of The Athletic, there are eight teams known to be in the mix for Scherzer. Those eight teams are the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros and New York Mets.
Stark added that the Mets are considered a long shot because Scherzer may refuse to play for a division rival.

MetsAlso heard Yankees checked in & were told he was unlikely to OK a trade there. Mets could be a long shot for the same reason.

The Dodgers, Giants and Padres are most likely toward the top of Scherzer’s wishlist. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com is reporting that Scherzer prefers to play for a West Coast team.
“It remains to be seen if Max Scherzer will be traded, but a source said the pitcher ‘strongly prefers the West Coast’ to waive his no-trade clause. Given the state of the NL West, he could be the difference-maker in that race if he landed with the Dodgers, Giants or Padres,” Feinsand said.
In 18 starts this season, Scherzer has a 7-4 record with a 2.83 ERA and 142 strikeouts.
The Nationals have a few more days to find the right trade partner for Scherzer.
