After drafting one of the most promising prospects in this year’s NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears could put tight end Cole Kmet on the trade block. Bleacher Report still has Kmet as a possible trade candidate even though there hasn’t been any concrete evidence that the Bears are looking to move on. The team drafted Colston Loveland with the first round of this year’s draft, and that could reduce the snaps for Kmet in a new offense led by quarterback Caleb Williams. Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Notre Dame product is coming off a down year last season, recording just 47 receptions for 474 receiving yards.
It wasn’t too long before the Bears were able to utilize Kmet ahead of the arrival of Williams last year. This means that the Bears will likely continue building a new offense that works for Williams, which is probably why they got Loveland in the first round. However, it was still shocking that they took a tight end early, and that should be an indication that time is running out for Kmet. They will likely keep him for this upcoming 2025 regular season, but if they have no use for him in the future, it might be best to ship him away while he’s healthy and has value.

Potential Next Teams
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs will need to start thinking about the future of their tight end unit after this 2025 regular season. Travis Kelce is probably playing one more season, and someone like Noah Gray hasn’t done enough to show that he could take over as a possible starter. This is why they signed Robert Tonyan for extra depth in case Kelce did retire this offseason. Cole Kmet has a similar size, but nothing like the same hands as Kelce, but he has a lot of upside that the Chiefs need to help Patrick Mahomes continue to thrive throwing the football.
Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens’ veteran Mark Andrews‘ job is safe for now since Isaiah Likely has been dealing with an injury. This means the team could likely keep Andrews until his contract expires at least. However, if Likely returns and outpaces Andrews, they could trade him. They will still need a reliable backup and Kmet could be the perfect tight end for that role to pair with Likely and keep the chains moving.
Los Angeles Chargers
If any quarterback in the entire league can bring out the best in the big-sized receiver options, it’s Justin Herbert. Between Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin, the Chargers are in good business to get some explosiveness in the aerial attack. Kmet could be the last piece that would put the offensive pass-attack in an excellent place
Washington Commanders
However, even though Zach Ertz is returning for another season, the Commanders must upgrade the tight end unit once Ertz retires. John Bates doesn’t have the hands to catch a ball consistently; rather, he’s only reliable at blocking. Kmet could be the new long-term tight end for Jayden Daniels’ offense that could put the team on top.
